Fort Eustis Super Fun Day

Two weekends ago, Miles and I went to Fort Eustis for "Super Fun Day", which was basically a soldier appreciation day. They had carnival rides and carnival food, and lots of free give away booths for soldiers and their family to get information on army life. It was all very nice, but of course this was held on one of the hottest and most humid days of the summer so far. It was over 100 degrees outside and all the soldiers are required to stay until 3pm. Did I mention that it all started at 8am. So needless to say by about 12pm. I was hot and sweaty and ready to go home for the day. but we had to stay because that is the rules. So I stuck it out best I could and tried to enjoy it.

In the morning before Miles was released from Formation they had the Fort Eustis Drill Team come out and do a small performance. Now if you have never seen this before its actually really neat. Its not as fast paced as you would think, they all move very slowly and are completely in unison the entire time. Kind of hard to tell from the picture but you get the idea. They also had a parachuter and a few jets flew over head. An excellant use of taxpayers money :p

So then Miles and I ventured over to the Transportation Muesuem to check it out, Miles had already been but wanted to show me some of the stuff that he would be doing, and I was very excited but mostly just to get into the air conditioning for a while. And as it turned out it was really quite interesting. I included a few pictures of some of the old trains and if you look closely at the large green machine, I have no idea what it is, but its huge. I am standing just to the left of it waving.
